Private, Company D, 7th Tennessee Cavalry, enlisted for 1 year in Carroll Co, TN on 8/4/1962 and mustered at Trenton, TN on 9/24/1862. He was one of the 100 or more men who went AWOL from the forts on the Miss/Tenn line in June 1863. Captured by Colonel Napier's irregular forces on 12/18/1863 and paroled. On 1/1/1864 he enlisted in Co K, 2nd TN Mounted Infantry, a unit his brother Littleton Gooch joined later. He married Martha J Hatch and died in Decatur Co, TN on 1/2/1894. Both Willis and Martha Gooch applied for pensions.
