Wlliam S. Lincoln, 85, of Lafayette, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Newton Medical Center.

Born in Bayonne, Mr. Lincoln moved to Sussex County in 1968. He was vice president of engineering and construction for Yonkers Contracting in New York City, where he supervised several multi-million dollar projects and was the recipient of several engineering and construction awards. He retired in 2007 after 18 years of service. An active member of several contractors and engineering organizations, Mr. Lincoln served as both chairman of various committees and in an executive board capacity for various contractors' associations. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. A member of the American Legion, Mr. Lincoln served as judge advocate for Post 157 in Branchville.

Mr. Lincoln's civil activities included serving as a member of the Lafayette Township Committee, as deputy mayor and as chairman of the Planning Board (six years), during which time the board initiated the first zoning ordinance for the township.

The son of the late John and Winifred Lincoln, Mr. Lincoln is survived by his wife, Theresa Lincoln; his daughters, Gail Lincoln and Hollie Vaughan; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
