Mrs. J.M. Hasty Interred at Gowrie
Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Roetman and Della went to Jefferson last Tuesday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Roetman's grandmother Mrs. J.M. Hasty, 90. Mrs. Hasty had a stroke two years ago, and came to Estherville from Jefferson to live with her daughter Mrs. Will Schwartz. A year ago she broke her hip and has been bedfast since.
Born in Illinois, she came to Iowa in 1905. She is the mother of ten children, eight of whom survive. Her husband passed away in 1914. Since that time she has lived with her children, and spent her time making pieced quilts and quilting them for her 37 grandchildren. All of them were the double wedding ring pattern but one. She has quilted over 500 quilts in her lifetime.
She joined the Christian church when a girl, and also belonged to the Rebekah Lodge. She leaves 37 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. There are 119 descendants of her family. There are fifteen grandsons, and six of them were pall bearers, and six were honorary pall bearers. The burial was at Gowrie.
