Guy E. Monroe, 99, Ottawa, died Saturday, November 30, 2002 at Village Manor Care Center. Family and friends will meet at 1 pm Tuesday at the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home and proceed to Highland Cemetery for graveside services at 2 pm with the Rev. Steve VanOstran officiating.
He was born November 1, 1923 [sic], in Ottawa to Edwin S. and Hallie (Roberts) Monroe. He grew up and attended Ottawa schools. He worked for Carpenter Super Service for nine years and also worked for Gas Service Company from 1940 to 1942 before transferring to Cities Service Gas Company in the compressor station. He retired from Cities Service in 1968. He and his wife also farmed and raised cattle.
He married Lola Pearl Peffly on February 21, 1923 in Ottawa. She preceeded him in death.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ottawa, a charter member of the Friendship Sunday school class, and a former trustee on the Lincoln Township board.
He is survived by a daughter, Marguerite Gibson, Ottawa; eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin; and two sisters, Edna Sheppard and Flora Wells.
