Julia F. Gregory, 91, formerly of 12-A Boyce Avenue, died Saturday, May 18, 2002 at National Health Care of Mauldin.

Born in Sylvania, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Sidney Lanier and Lena Parker Flanders, and wife of the late Dr. Reginald Emerson Gregory. She was a member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church and the Senior Citizens Fellowship Club.

She was educated at Sylvania High School, Andrew Junior College, and Georgia State College for Women.

Civic or Public Offices previously held include being President of Cleveland Forest Garden Club; Secretary of Greenville County Medical Auxiliary; President, Vice President, and Secretary of Women for Constitutional Government; and Board of Stewards of Buncombe Street Methodist Church.

Mrs. Gregory traveled extensively and had visited almost every country in the world. She was an elementary teacher for many years, beginning her career in Rock Hill, S.C., at Central Elementary in the 1930s. Her love of gardening and zeal for an active political life helped to enrich the lives of many in Greenville, S.C.

Mrs. Gregory is survived by nephew, David Flanders and his wife Emily; great niece Allison and great nephews Andy and Clint of Sylvania, GA; nephews Gene Burgess and Reuben Burgess of Batesburg, S.C. and Jimmy Gregory of Lexington, S.C.; sister-in-law, Margaret S. Gregory of Lexington, S.C., and five nieces: Nora Gregory Heath of Rock Hill, S.C., Nancy G. Morris of Ridge Spring, S.C., and Shirley G. McCrary and Bettie G. Lee of Summerville, S.C., and Patricia G. Ceresoli, Peoria, Il. She is predeceased by two sisters and a brother: Christine Davis and Mildred Seals, and Chester Flanders.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice, or Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, 200 Buncombe Street, Greenville SC 29601.

Services: 3 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Mausoleum Chapel.

Visitation: 2 p.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel. - Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel.
