Born May 31, 1925, in Armstrong, Va., he was a son of Sherman Lee and Lena Sarah (Brown) Bright.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Deerfield Baptist Church and the Dula-Byerly VFW Post 3060. Prior to retirement, he was a farmer and was employed by Bath County Public Schools for 26 years as a custodian and bus driver.
He enjoyed working in his woodworking shop since retirement.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Homer, Arthur, Richard, Paul and Stanley Bright and six sisters, Hester Berry, Virginia Griffin, Pauline Meeks, Golda Kimberling, Joanna Sheets and Ethel Neff.
Surviving are his wife, Arbutus (Martin) Bright; four children, Ella Martin Braden of Fredericksburg, Winnie Wilfong and husband, Tom, of Bridgewater, Lester Douglas Bright and wife, Cindy, of Deerfield and Jackie Henderson and husband, Roy, of Shenandoah; three sisters, Annie Curd, Mahulda Cook and Mary Butler; five grandchildren, Wayne Hodge and wife, Janet, Pamela Bennett and husband, Shawn, Kelly Bright, Charlie Wilfong and Cory Campbell and wife, Anna and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Bennett and Dustin Hodge.
A funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, in Deerfield Baptist Church by Pastor Curtis Crawford. Burial will follow in Deerfield Community Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Wayne Hodge, Charlie Wilfong, Cory Campbell, Butch Whitesell, George Schneider, Larry Bright, Tommy Berry and William Berry. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dula-Byerly VFW Post 3060.
Friends may call at the home at any time.
