Born Joseph Sonsini in Italy in 1856 or 1857 in a village on or near the eastern coast of Italy due east of Rome. Many Sonsinis from Pescara, Abruzzo, Italy. Exact family background unknown. Came to United States in 1883. Had 5 brothers and sisters. Some went to Boston area.

Met future wife Dina Uven in New York City. He was bartender and she was a barmaid. Lived behind the store. Married in 18??. Three children: Clermont born 1894, then several miscarriages. Joseph born 7/27/1901 and Dorothy born 12/3/1903.

Dina retired. Joseph went into construction in the Bronx. He became a successful home builder. At some point, he left home, though he always supported the family financially. May have been a second marriage. Went into business with Walloch (who was married with two boys). Joseph Sonsin got his older son, Clem, into the business.

In 1920 census, Joseph Sonsin was living on Longwood Avenue in the Bronx, NY. Listed family as himself, wife Dina, son Joseph, daughter Dorothy. In 1930 census, Joseph was living alone as a boarder at 509 Commerce Street in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.

Died in Tucson, AZ on 9/9/1937. Last address was 175 South Meyer in Tucson (Tucson Convention Center now occupies the site.) No family listed on death certificate. Buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Tucson.
