Eldo Ernst Bartels was born
June 15, 1922, the son of
Herman W. and S. Maria
(Schweer) Bartels on their farm
at Tobias, Nebraska. He lived
on the farm with his parents
and attended Zion Lutheran
Parochial School at Tobias,
Nebraska.
Eldo was baptized July 9,
1922 and confirmed that
baptism April 5, 1936 at Zion
Lutheran Church in rural
Tobias, Nebraska.
He worked on various farms
in Nebraska and Iowa until he
entered the U.S. Army in
March of 1945. He served his
country during WWII, as a
Staff Sargeant in the Army Air
Corps with overseas duty in
Greenland receiving an
honorable discharge in
December of 1946.
On October 12, 1947 Eldo
married Neoma B. Gerke at
Zion Lutheran Church, rural
Storm Lake. Their marriage
was blessed with one son,
Daniel Lee.
After their marriage, they
moved into Storm Lake and
became members of St. John's
Lutheran Church and in 1951,
became charter members and
helped establish Grace
Lutheran Church in Storm
Lake. During his membership
at Grace, Eldo became a
charter member of the Men's
Club, Adult Choir and the
Voter's Assembly in which he
served in various offices.
He worked at Schuelke Auto
and Implement Co., James
Larsen Implement Co. and
served in the United States
Postal Service for 30 years
before retiring in October of
1983.
Eldo was preceded in death
by his parents, an infant sister
Gertrude and his beloved sister
Mildred.
Survivors include his wife
Neoma Bartels of Storm Lake;
son Daniel Bartels and wife
Desiree of Scottsdale, Arizona;
brother Victor Bartels and wife
Tillie of Storm Lake; brothers
and sisters-in-law: Loraine and
Darvin Harm of Alta and Lorna
and Willis Lussman of Storm
Lake; nieces, nephews,
extended family and friends.
