Martha Hawkins was born ca 1751 in Abington, PA, a daughter of James and Martha (Hollowell) Hawkins. In the 1760s she with her parents and siblings joined the migration of Quakers from Pennsylvania into South Carolina. On there 12th of 3rd mo 1772, she married at Bush River Friends Meeting, Newberry district, SC, Eli Cook. They were the parents of ten children: Rachel, Jonathan, Eli (died in infancy), Mary, Isaac, James, Martha, Phebe, Nathan, and a second son named Eli. About 1805 Eli and Martha joined the migration of Quakers from the Cane Creek and Bush River Friends Meetings in South Carolina to Miami Friends Meeting, Warren County, Ohio, to remove themselves to a part of the country that did not allow slavery. As meetings were set off from Miami, Eli and Martha became members of Elk Friends Meeting in Preble County, OH. Martha's death occurred the 7th of 5th mo 1835.
