RICHARD HARRISON CRIDER SR., 61, of 535 Frederick St. in Hagerstown, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at Washington County Hospital. Born May 1, 1943, in Harrisonburg, Va., he was the son of the late Edward and Gernie Rhinehart Lamb.

He was employed as an armed security guard by Central Security in Harrisonburg. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was a member of the American Rifle Association and the Fraternal Order of Police.

He is survived by his wife, Joan E. Crider; eight daughters, Joan Phillips and Ramona Breeden, both of Harrisonburg, Lydia Tolliver of Chesterfield, Va., Donna Smith of Smithsburg, Kathy Free of Hagerstown, Sally Rowe of Williamsport, Estelle Puffenbarger of Strasburg, Va., and Lisa Crider at home; three sons, Larry Welsh of Anaheim, Calif., Charles Welsh of Hagerstown, and Releigh Welsh of Timberville, Va.; one sister, Patty Hedricks of Harrisonburg; one brother, Robert Workman of Pittsburgh; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Hagerstown; burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
