The Rev. James A. Lowry, retired Methodist pastor, died at his home in North Main street early this morning after a long illness. Mr. Lowry was born near Zanesville, O., and received his early education in the Zanesville High school. Two years after graduating from the Ohio Wesleyan university in 1880, with a degree of A. B., he was graduated from Drew Theological seminary with the degree of B. D. and recieved jis M. A. degree from Ohio Wesleyan.
Mr. Lowry joined the Detroit conference of the Methodist church and was stationed in Detroit. He also served churches in Caro, Saginaw and Midland City, Mich. In 1906 he was transferred to the Genesee conference and had been pastor of churches in Avoca, Bergen, and Alexander and Ulysses, PA. He retired nine years ago and had been a resident of Canandaigua since 1926. He had served as supply pastor in the local church at various times.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Rosa Frome Lowry, he leaves 3 sons, Dr. Erwin Lowry, of Pittsburgh; Raymond F. Lowry of Toledo, O., and Earl M. Lowry, of Rochester.
The funeral will take place from the home Thursday at 10 o'clock. The Rev. Dr. Charles X. Hutchinson of Pittsfield will officiate, assisted by the Rev. S. G. Houghtou, of the Canandaigua Methodist church; the Rev. Stephen S. Pratt of this city, former local pastor; and the Rev. Howard D. Smith, of the Clifton Springs Methodist church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery
