Dora Helen Emerson married the ancient languages educated Ernest Budge on 24 March 1883. Although he was frequently away on antiquities collection excursions for the British Museum during their early marriage, he eventually settled into life as the Keeper of Antiquities at the British Museum and they lived in a home leased from the Museum at 48 Bloomsbury Street. Mrs. Budge's widowed mother lived with them most of their married life. Dr. Budge was knighted in 1920, and she became Lady Wallis Budge.
They were married for 57 years and had no children. She was memorialized by her husband after his death by his bequest of the Lady Wallis Budge endowments in her memory. These provide fellowships and graduate scholarships to Cambridge and Oxford Universities to help young scholars of Egyptology who need help like he did.
Sir Wallis Budge wrote over a hundred books and pined for his wife's contributions, crediting her with helping him index, sort and arrange stubs. He wrote, "My wife was wife, critic, helper, mother, daughter and pal."
