Mr. Joe M. Hockfield, 82, of the Blumenthal Jewish Home in Clemmons, S.C., formerly of 600-6 S. LaSalle St., Apt. H., Durham, died Sunday, Feb. 12, in Clemmons. Mr. Hockfield, a native of Durham, was educated in the Durham city schools and was a member of the 1930 Durham High School state championship basketball team. He attended N.C. State University, where he played freshman basketball and lettered in varsity basketball. From 1936 to 1950, he owned and operated Hockfield Hosiery of Durham. From 1951 to 1982, he was a manufacturer's representative of Christmas decorations in the southeastern United States. Mr. Hockfield was a former member of Beth El Synagogue in Durham, where he served as treasurer for four years and on its board of trustees. He was a member of Temple Israel in Charlotte, a life member of Durham Elks Lodge 567, Eno Masonic Lodge 20, B'nai B'rith and a member of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity.
