Mark Anthony Pickett of Cloudland died Friday, Oct. 28. He was 39. He was a Christian and was of the Baptist faith. He was an independent carpentry contractor. He was a very family-oriented man who enjoyed frequent family gatherings at the family home in Lakeview. He was an avid sports fan, having been involved in Little League sports all his life. His love for his children their activities and their sporting interests was his pride and real joy in life.

Survivors include his father, Sidney Pickett of Rossville; mother, Judy Bryan of Rossville; wife of 19 years, Joy Pickett; sons, Nick and Kenneth Pickett; daughter, Sydney Pickett; brothers, Bobby Pickett of Flintstone, Sandy Pickett of Ooltewah, Tenn., Gerald Pritchett of Rossville; grandfather, Lawrence Pickett of Hixson, Tenn.; several other relatives and many friends.

Services: Thursday, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. at Heritage Chapel with Neal Brown and Rev. Tom Edwards officiating. Burial: Lakewood South Memory Gardens. Visitation: Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 4-8 p.m., and Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Heritage Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe. Pallbearers: Nick Pickett, Bobby Pickett, Sandy Pickett, Jeremy Pritchett, Josh Knowles and Ken Brooks.

Mr. Pickett was on his way home to Cloudland, Ga., with two of his children after taking them to a fall festival at Brainerd Baptist School. He apparently had some kind of run-in with another driver on Highway 2A near Ridgeland High School. The other vehicle apparently tailgated him from there and it continued as they turned onto Highway 193, going south. Mr. Pickett stopped his truck in the middle of the highway near High Point. He walked back toward the other vehicle and was shot four times. His 6-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter were in the vehicle when the shooting happened.
