OLDEST PERSON IN COMMUNITY DIED
FUNERALS HELD FOR JEREMIAH OLSON AND MRS. ALVESTAD PAST WEEK

Funeral services were held for two of the oldest people in the community, Jeremiah Olson, 91, who was the oldest person here, and Mrs. Kristine Alvestad, who was 86 years old when she passed away June 23. Mr. Olso died at the Mrs. Julia Sigmund home Friday.

Obituary of Mrs. Alvestad
Anna Kristine Stokke was born at Stokke, Kobbervick, Norway on April 10, 1845, her parents being Gundvor and John Peterson Stokke.

On her twentieth birthday, April 10, 1865, she was united in marriage to Torbjorn Helgeson Alvestad. They lived for several years at Haugesund, where some of the children were born. In 1885 they emigrated to America, coming first to Jewell, Iowa. Later they made their home at Sioux Rapids for many years, where Mr. Alvestad followed his trade of paper hanging and painting. In 1906 they moved to Minnesota, and they still have their home at Ada, Minn. Mr. Alvestad passed away in October 1926, and since that time Mrs. Alvestad has made her home with her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Alvestad.

Ten children were born to this union, two having died in infancy. The others are, Ben of Minneapolis, Mrs. Andrew Thompson of Mahomen, Minn., Mrs. Mary Iverson of Belle Plaine, Cornelius of Clifford, N.D., John and George of Kansas City, and Henry and Andrew of Roland. She also leaves sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Lisa Master of Fosston, Minn., and a brother Knudt Stokke of Clifford, N.D., also survive her.

Though possessed of an unusually strong physique, Mrs. Alvestad has been an invalid in a wheel chair for the last seven years, due to two hip injuries, the second occurring just as she was getting about on crutches after the first fall. She failed gradually the last half year, and was confined to her bed from March 2nd until the day she passed away, June 23. Here death was due to no particular disease, it was simply a release after a gradual wearing away of the body, due to old age. On the day of her passing, Mrs. Alvestad was 86 years, 2 months and 13 days.

The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Henry Alvestad home and at Salem church, Rev. Olaf Holen officiating. Interment was made in the Roland cemetery.

Pall bearers at the funeral were Juel Sandvold, H.E. Evenson, John T. Johnson, Cyrus Thompson, J. O. Josendal and M. B. Griere.

Among those who attended the funeral from out of town were George Alvestad of Kansas City, Mrs. Mary Iverson of Belle Plaine, Lars Alvestad of Jewell, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Alvestad of Williams, Mrs. Agnes Alvestad of Litchfield, Minn., C. T. Iverson, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Iverson and Mrs. Walter Wagner of belle Plaine, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Giere and daughter Betty of Newton, Mrs. Waage, Mrs. Johnson and O. Nederboe of Chicago, Miss Alta Hougen of Ames, and Mrs. Clyde Baumgardner of McCallsburg.
