*** The following is a tribute written by my son Brandon some time after his friend, David died.-
"God decided he needed three special young men to help him in Heaven. So He sent three angels to take David, Jon, and Chad's hands and bring them to Heaven. As David Searls once said, "Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean."
As always, David stopped at nothing when it came to giving to others. He always made friends wherever he went and made life more enjoyable to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Wherever David went, he went with all his heart. These are just a few of the reasons I was proud to call him my best friend.
I had the pleasure of growing up with David. I first met him at our babysitter's house. From there we sparked a friendship that will never end. David and I acted like he was MacGyver and I was his best friend, Pete. We liked to hide under my bed and tried to escape before the criminals returned. David could always find a way to escape. Every day that passes, I get closer to seeing him again.
The day I found out about David's death, I also found out my grandfather had terminal cancer. I did not know what I was going to do. Knowing that I just lost my best friend, and knowing that I was about to lose my grandfather, broke my heart. That day my mother told me something that eased the pain I felt in my heart. She told me that David had a heart that would never harden, a temper that would never tire, and a touch that would never hurt. Then she told me that David would want me to go and be with my grandfather and make our time together as precious as the time David and I had. I believed what my mother said, because that was the kind of person David was.
Having faith in God made our friendship unforgettable. From the church trips to Arbuckle Wilderness to the hiking adventures we took out on my grandfather's land, David was a young man with a heart the size of Texas. When I get to Heaven, he will have so much to show and tell me. Knowing David, he will know where everything is, and where all the neat things are to see. David made life more enjoyable whenever he was around. He always had a great big smile on his face, and a unique personality that has touched my heart forever."
