Dr. Mary Anna Cook Thompson was Portland, Oregon's first woman physician. She was also a leader among Portland's first women's rights activists. In 1878, after participating in the National Woman Suffrage Association Convention at Washington, D.C., she was among thirteen women to address the U.S. Senate Committee on Privileges and Elections in support of women's right to vote.
