Mr. Nicholas Stallworth Hare, Sr. of Monroeville died Monday, January 6, 2014, at his residence.
Mr. Hare was born on October 11, 1911 to Mary and Francis Hare. His education included an Undergraduate at Auburn and the Law School of University of Alabama. He was a local attorney for many years and a member of The First United Methodist Church of Monroeville. Mr. Hare was member of the Kappa Alpha Social Fraternity. He opened law offices in Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile and Monroeville, AL. Mr. Hare served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and was stationed at Wright-Patterson Field in Dayton, OH. He was appointed to the State of Alabama Attorney General office as Chief Trial Attorney; served as In-House Council for the Alabama State Docks in Mobile during the Directorship of Earl McGowin. Mr. Hare was a scientist as much as an attorney; he was an inventor and held many Patents. Mr. Hare was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Chamber of Commerce.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hare, both parents and a brother, Dr. Frank Hare. Mr. Hare is survived by one son, Nicholas Hare, Jr. and wife Dawn; one daughter, Bonnie Hare Shanahan; four grandchildren, Bentley Shanahan Lay, Heather Shanahan Coleman, Nicholas Hare III, Eli Hare and four great-grandchildren, Mary Darby Hare Coleman, Katherine Morgan Coleman, Mary Frances Lay, Caroline Wesley Lay. Mr. Hare also has 5 nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Friday, January 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at The First United Methodist Church of Monroeville with the Rev. Sara Shafer, Dr. Thomas Lane Butts officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service time. Interment will be at the Monroeville Methodist Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home directing.
