Mr. Shelton died May 27, 2006, in Kilgore.
He was born Nov. 11, 1916, in Honey Grove where he grew up and graduated from high school. He went to work for Magnolia Petroleum Co., and then served in he Army during World War II. He returned to Magnolia Petroleum Co. (now known as Mobil Oil Co.), where he retired in 1972. He was a member of Forest Home Baptist Church, American Legion, a 32nd degree Mason, Order of Silver Trowel for State of Texas, and Order of Eastern Star. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Shelton; sisters, Mary Spinks and Loraine Cateno; and brother, Louie Shelton.
Survivors include son, Bob Shelton, White Oak; daughters, Ruth Smith, Jefferson, and Mary Hearn, Kilgore; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
