Nelse Walter Petermann Jr. 60, of Springdale, Arkansas passed away December 30th, 2013 in Springdale of an apparent heart attack with his brother Martell at his side.

Nelse was born to the late Nelse and Norma Petermann on February 10, 1953, in Powell, Wyoming.

The family moved in 1958 to Kennewick to homestead land. He helped out on the family farm throughout his high school years. He graduated from Kennewick High School in 1971, having lettered in football and track.

Nelse attended the University of Washington in Seattle with a football scholarship. He played tight end on the Huskies varsity football team for three years and also lettered in track two years where he ran the hurdles. He graduated in 1976 with a business degree. His early work experiences took him to Alaska, Wyoming, and California. While attending Lake Avenue Congregational Church in Pasadena, CA he met his wife, and they married on December 27, 1980 settling in Springdale, Arkansas. There he had a house building business and later did general construction.

At the time of his death he was working in the oil fracking fields of Woodward, Oklahoma.

Nelse was a supportive son, husband, father, brother and a loyal friend. A gentle giant with determination, his humor, adventurism, strong work ethic, and friendship will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his former wife Judy, their daughter Melanie Justus and grandson Jadin of Springdale, their son Luke (Megan) Petermann of Fayetteville, his siblings, Patricia (Karl) Simon of Lynnwood, WA, Pamela (Ron) McBride of Walla Walla, Martell Petermann of Springdale, Daniel Smith of Kennewick, Paula Ray of Linden, CA, three nephews, five nieces, nine cousins and aunts Marge (Al) Balius of D'Iberville, MS, and Pat (Don) Kirk of Carson, NM.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday the 11th of January at the 412 Annex in Springdale. Located behind the ONYX Coffee Lab at 7058 West Sunset Avenue, Springdale, AR 72762.
