Dawn was born on July 5, 1929, in Wauwatosa, Wis., a daughter of Joseph H. and Jane Abel Williams. Raised in Springfield, Ill., she graduated from Springfield High School in 1947. On New Year's Eve in 1948 she married Robert C. Taylor, a tool and die designer, in Springfield. In 1952 she and her husband moved to Rock Island.

In 1985 she and Bob relocated to southern California, returning to Illinois on Bob's retirement in 1992. They wintered in Green Valley, Ariz. for many years. In 2002 they moved back to Rock Island. Their marriage continued for 65 years, terminated only by her passing.

Dawn was an outstanding organizer and planner, working several part-time administrative and clerical jobs throughout her life. A brilliant and avid shopper and homemaker, she thoroughly enjoyed discovering bargains and buying clothes and gifts for friends and family. Generous, kind, cheerful, and caring, Dawn often carried small toys to give to children she encountered.
