Karl R. Zinsmeister, 77, died Sunday, November 6, 2005, at his home. He was the husband of the late Clara E. (Mingo) Zinsmeister. Funeral liturgy Thursday at St. Joseph Church, York, Rev. Louis Petruha, OFM Cap., as celebrant. Burial in Mt. Rose Cemetery with military rites performed by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Zinsmeister was born May 6, 1928, in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Karl E. and Betty (Zeigler) Zinsmeister. He had been the owner and operator of the White Horse Diner in Thomasville from 1954-1974, and later retired as a sales representative from Gem Candy and Novelty Co., Inc., after 19 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal and three bronze stars. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and had been a volunteer at the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry, the York County Blind Center, and with the VNA Hospice. He was a life member of the VFW West York Post, the Victory AA, and the Loyal Order of Moose York Lodge. He was a member of the Alpen Rose German American Society, the White Rose Polka Club, the Golden Nuggets, the Oberbayern Folk Dance Group, Hawk Gunning Club, and the Viking AA. Mr. Zinsmeister is survived by a son, Dennis Ray Zinsmeister and his companion, Pamela Peden of Burlington, VT; a companion, Violet Smyser; a sister-in-law, Anna Fox and her husband Eugene; nieces and nephews.
