Andrew F. Krieger A much loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Andrew Francis Krieger, 88, of Albemarle County, died on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Martha Jefferson Hospital, following a massive heart attack. Andy's passing was peaceful with his wife at his side. Andy was born on September 10, 1925, in Troy, NY. He served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Electronic Technician during WWII; graduated from Russell Sage College in Albany, NY with a bachelor's degree in English and Psychology, and earned a masters' degree in Public Administration at State University of New York at Albany. He held the position of Regional Director of the New York State Department of Health/NYC office and later, Director of the health department's Bureau of Narcotics Control. Andy was a quiet, yet sometimes feisty gentleman with a wry humor, known in his family as "Mr. Fix-It" because he was able to successfully repair nearly everything. He was an avid reader, seldom seen without a book in his hand, and while he abhorred college football, he enjoyed and excelled in several sports such as swimming and baseball. He was considered an excellent golfer, once rode his bicycle 50 miles around New York City and loved anything to do with aviation. He moved to Earlysville, with his wife, Enid B. Krieger, in 1997, where they lived for 16 years before moving to an active senior community on Pantops. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Enid B. Krieger; stepson, Kennon McCoy and his wife, Melissa; stepdaughter, Enetta McCoy-Pong and her husband, Dr. David Wu-Pong; grandchildren, Jenice, Courtney, Jasmine, Chelsea, Christopher, Jennifer, Kiara, Sherod and Makenzie; great-grandchildren, Akaiyah, Jeremiah, Kylee and Dominique. He also leaves to mourn, three adult children from his previous marriage, Catherine Krieger-Jewell and her husband, Marty; Ann Bailey and Edward Krieger. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Sojourners United Church of Christ, 1017 Elliott Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22902. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Andy's memory to Sojourners UCC. The family extends their deepest thanks for the loving care that Andy received from the Emergency Department and ICU staff of Martha Jefferson Hospital, and also to Dr. Andrew McFarland, who was his primary physician for many years. Deep appreciation is also extended to the many good friends who shared Andy's life journey, especially Dr. Marie Coles Baker and family.
