SIMMONS Jimmie Tucker Simmons, born 12/28/1919, passed away in her hometown of Glennville, GA, on 1/5/2014. She had many careers during her lifetime, from working at an all-night truck stop while she went to college, to managing the Stetson University Post Office in the 1950s while her husband, Earl Simmons, was in college, and managing the on-campus cafeteria in Wake Forest, NC, while he was attending seminary there. She most loved working with children, though, and in the early 1960s founded the kindergarten at Arlington Baptist Church in Jacksonville and later operated a day care in her home for many years. Mrs. Simmons is survived by her daughters Kathy Prosser, Jacksonville Beach, and Carol Wollitz (Jerry), Hilliard, seven grandchildren, Rob Placek, Mike Placek (Pam), Amy Comeens (Ron), Gerald Wollitz (Lee Anne), Jason Wollitz (Melissa), Justin Wollitz, Jared Wollitz (Lori), and 17 great-grandchildren, all of whom absolutely adored her. Services will be held at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville, GA, on Saturday, January 11. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service following at 11:00 a.m. Grandson Rev. Gerald Wollitz, will conduct the services. Jason Wollitz and Karissa Placek will also speak. Pall Bearers will be grandsons, Rob, Mike, Justin, Jared, Ron, and great-grandson, Micah. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honor to First Baptist Church, Glennville, GA, or Rivers Edge Church, 37169 Coyote Dr., Hilliard, FL 32046.
