❤ Mother-in-Law ❤
Wed September 3rd, 1950

"You became my other mother the day I wed your son,
And I just want to thank you, Mom, for the lovely things you've done.
You raised in love the gracious man with whom I share my life.
You are his lovely mother and I'm his lucky wife." ~ Author Unknown ~

June Maime Markert Bachman of Fellowship Manor, Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania passed away after a lengthy illness Sunday, January 14, 2001 in Fellowship Manor in Whitehall. She was the wife of Roger Gilbert Bachman. They were married 50 years September 3, 2000. She was seventy-one years old.
She was a secretary for the former Hunter Equipment and Sales, Allentown, Pennsylvania for many years before retiring in 1990.
Born, reared and living in Allentown all her life, she was a daughter of the late Paul A Markert and the late Thelma Eck.
She was a member of St John's United Church of Christ of Fullerton and a member of the former Owls Bowling League of Allentown.
Mom loved to dance, attend local basketball games, and play cards and bingo. She and Dad enjoyed get-togethers on a regular basis with their many, many childhood friends. Though she had a strong personality - headstrong and very opinionated, yet open-minded - she was adored by family and friends. Family was all important to her and she treated us all equally. Her childhood friends, both male and female alike, were truly "best friends forever" in the truest sense of the phrase.
Mom was such a fun person to be around. I recall once a co-worker had asked what I'd done one weekend. When I replied that I'd spent all Saturday with my mother-in-law shopping and went out to eat with her after Mass on Sunday, she replied, "Oh goodness, there's no way I'd spend over an hour with my mother-in-law!"
She left behind her loving, grieving husband; sons, Craig Paul and wife Susie of Keithville, Louisiana; Randy Scott and wife Cathy of Whitehall, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter.
When we received the phone call to come to Allentown because Mom was gone due to renal failure, it was the first time I ever saw my Craig cry. He was heart-broken. How he loved his parents; Mom's loss shook him to his very core.
An aside: Mom's passing fell on the same day of the same month ten years after my much loved Daddy. She left us at 11:00am that morning. Daddy passed away at 11:00am, too. We buried Mom at 4:30pm on the same day of the same month as we did Daddy. It was lightly raining at Daddy's funeral; it was lightly snowing at Mom's - the angels' way of showing us their own tears for our heart-breaking losses.
Mom is so very deeply loved and missed.

This is a poem that I sent Dad the week following our return home. It brought solace to Dad, Craig and me. A copy of it still hangs in our home office where Craig and I kept our cat sanctuary's records.

Rose Beyond the Wall
A rose once grew where all could see,
Sheltered beside a garden wall,
And as the days passed swiftly by,
It spread its branches, straight and tall.
One day, a beam of light shone through
A crevice that had opened wide.
The rose bent gently toward its warmth
Then passed beyond to the other side.
Now, you who deeply feel its loss,
Be comforted - the rose blooms there -
Its beauty even greater now,
Nurtured by God's own loving care.
