He was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, June 8, 1849. He was married to Viola Hanns at Scotland, Indiana, February 15, 1877. To this union six children were born, five of whom survive—James B., Clyde, and Lula DICKINSON, of Lafayette; Mrs. Ray LAUGHLIN, of Bloomfield, and Car, of New Orleans, La. A daughter Mrs. Raleigh PERSHING preceded him in death. Other surviving relatives are tow brothers, two sisters and four grandchildren.

In the year ’63 he answered the imperative call for men to serve the country’s need, although only a boy of fourteen years. He served with the 21ST REGIMENT HEAVY ARILLERY until the close of the war.

He was a life-long church member, and at the time of his death he was a member of the U. B. Church at Coal City.

He was laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery at the Home July 28, to await the coming of the resurrection morn.
