By The Calgary Herald July 8, 2007

A descendant of a Calgary-area pioneer family is lamenting the recent destruction of their historical log home in the city's southwest.

Late Thursday, fire completely destroyed the Bradley homestead at 17th Avenue and 69th Street S.W.

The Calgary police arson unit is investigating to determine the cause of the blaze.

"That's a piece of heritage," Deborah Lougheed Sinclair said Saturday evening.

"It's important . . . to preserve what we do have, whether they seem as old perhaps as things you go to see in Europe or Eastern Canada.

"It was an original homestead, built in the style that many of them were."

Jonathan Bradley, Sinclair's great-great-grandfather, built the property in the early 1890s after moving his family to Alberta from Ontario.

A total of 11 children, as well as Bradley's wife, Elizabeth, lived in the home until the couple sold it in 1907 and moved to Calgary." ( Jul 2010, unigift)
