Melvin G. Andrews or Handy Andy as he was referred to by many Odessa friends is no longer with us.
But as we all know life sure provides many a twist and turn for us humans to experience and to work at moving past…..
Melvin was born in Stonewall, Oklahoma on August 25, 1938 to Melvin F. Andrews and Verna V. Sanders. He married his precious wife, Mamie L. Ivy, on May 11, 1954 and their wedlock gave them a daughter and a son Jeanie A. Phillips and Darrell G. Andrews, both of Odessa. They were very fortunate to have 5 grandchildren. Natalie J. Uranga & husband Paul of League City, Lori D. Tomlinson & husband Chance of Odessa and Elizabeth Ballanger & husband Ethan of Dallas, Texas.
In memory of Grandsons: Jeffery “Blake” Andrews and Phillip D. “Flipper” Andrews.
They also have 5 great grandchildren: Lillian Grace, Charlotte Rose, & Abigail Kate of Odessa & Joaquin and Zoey Adella of League City.
He always had PLENTY of riddles & puzzles to challenge himself and anyone else willing to listen. He had a constant desire to play one more good game of checkers with someone who hadn’t played him before and lost. The only thing as fun as checkers was playing Crazy Rummy every morning with his beloved wife.
He will be very missed, thought of and prayed for everyday.
Joint Memorial services for Mamie and Andy will be held at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, TX on Saturday, January 18, 2014, officiated by Bro. Luther Whitlow. Interment will be privately held at Greenhill Cemetery in Lindsay, OK. Arrangements are entrusted Acres West Funeral Chapel and condolences may be sent online to acreswestfuneral.com.
