(September 6, 1922 - March 15, 2012)

Hazel R. Goodwin
Hazel Goodwin, age 89, of Ebro, MN, died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Clearwater County Memorial Hospital in Bagley, MN.

Hazel Rose Hill, daughter of James and Emma (Peavey) Hill, was born on September 6, 1922 in Jack Pine, MN. She proudly held her Ojibwe name of Gaa Kaa Bishe, meaning "screech owl." As a young girl, Hazel attended school in Wahpeton, ND, for a few years and later at Fletcher School in Rice Lake, MN. On September 20, 1940, Hazel was united in marriage to Stanley Goodwin in Rice Lake. They made their home in Rice Lake until 1943 when they moved to Chicago, IL. In the mid-1940's, they returned to Rice Lake and moved to Ebro, MN, shortly thereafter. Following Stanley's death in 1998, Hazel continued to live at home until 2011 at which time she moved into the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Clearbrook, MN.

Hazel stayed very busy raising their family. She opened her heart and her door to anyone in need. Many of the young people from Ebro were known to stop in to visit and would race to get her fresh baked breads. She had many hobbies and was often found playing Bingo, Poker with buttons, card games, and working crossword puzzles. Hazel also enjoyed beading and tending to her flower gardens. She loved to listen to county western music and telling stories to her many family and friends. For many years she taught Sunday School. Hazel was very involved in the Rice Lake Area Fellowship Assembly of God Church. Her faith and her family were true treasures in her life.

Hazel is survived by four sons: Delton Goodwin of Ebro, Robert Goodwin of Waubun, Leonard (Valerie) Goodwin of Bagley, Randy (Carrie) Goodwin of Tenstrike, MN; five daughters: Yvonne Goodwin of Mahnomen, MN, Barbara LaFriniere of Bagley, Cheryll (David) Erickson of Clearbrook, MN, Joyce (Gary) Johannessohn of Bagley, and Cindy Camp also of Bagley; one son-in-law, Dale Danks of Fosston; 45 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and a good friend, Doris Christenson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Emma; her husband, Rev. Stanley Goodwin; an infant son, Stanley Lewis; a daughter, Shelby Danks; four grandsons: Scott Fultz, Brodie Camp, Jeffrey LaFriniere and Mark Fultz; one infant granddaughter; three sisters and one brother.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, March 19, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm, all at Faith Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Pine Bend Cemetery in Pine Bend, MN.
