Patrick Joseph Holland, 68, of 47 Green Street, retired yardmaster of the Delaware and Hudson Railroad, died suddenly Monday at Saratoga Hospital.

He had been under the care of a physician.

A native of Mechanicville, he was the son of the late Patrick Joseph Holland (Balleysteen, Limerick Co., Irish Free State) and Anna Marie (Hammond) Holland (Askeaton, Limerick Co., Irish Free State). His grandparents were the late Patrick Joseph and Ellen (Shaughnessy) Holland and Edward and Mary (Blackwell) Hammond , all of the Balleysteen and Askeaton areas of Limerick County, Ireland.

Mr. Holland resided here all his life and retired in 1973 as yardmaster after 30 years of service with the railroad. In earlier years, Mr.Holland was the proprietor of the American House, a well known dining establishment on Mabbett Street in this city.

He was a communicant of Saint Paul the Apostle Church, member of Mechanicville Knights of Columbus and the Railroad Yardmasters of America.

Surviviors include his wife, the former Dorothy Welch; two sons, Patrick Joseph Holland, Jr. of Columbus, South Carolina and David M. Holland of Mechanicville and a daughter, Miss Lisa Holland, also of Mechanicville. He was predeceased by an infant son, Thomas Gordon Holland, who passed away on June 27th, 1946.

Other survivors include his brothers Gordon Augustine Holland of Chicago and Thomas William Holland of Philadelphia, PA.; sister, Mrs. Ludwig A. (Teresa Elizabeth) Amann of Mechanicville; grandfather of Patrick Holland, the 3rd, and many neices and nephews.

The funeral is Thursday from the T. L. Cassidy Funeral Home, 126 North Second Avenue, Mechanicville, and at 9:30 a.m. from Saint Paul the Apostle Church. Interrment is in Saint Paul the Apostle Cemetery.

Bearers were Arthur Hebert, John H. Connors, John Hayner, Bernard Dunnigan, Ludwig Amann, Jr., and Charles Vega.
