Educated in Auburn schools, she was a graduate of Edward Little High School, class of 1943, and of the Maine School of Commerce in Auburn.
She worked in the secretarial pool in Washington, D.C., and drove a forklift at BIW during World War II. She worked as a keypunch operator at Pratt and Whitney in Connecticut.
After moving back to Maine, she became involved with the youth group at Sixth Street Church and was the manager of a group of singers called the Sugarplum Society. She became an accomplished seamstress and was hired to make drapes for Margaret Chase Smith's house in Cundy's Harbor.
A dedicated homemaker, she also was employed for many years as a cafeteria worker in the Auburn school system. She was an avid crocheter, loved to read and loved to watch golf on TV.
A member of Sixth Street Congregational Church, she is survived by a son, Greg and wife, Tina Walton; two daughters, Elaine and husband, John Courteau and Debra Wilkinson, all of Auburn; two grandchildren, Tracy Cottle and Katie Courteau; two great-grandchildren, Troy Walton and Myia Cottle.
She is predeceased by her first husband Herbert who passed away in 1958; her second husband Harold who passed away in 1995; two brothers, Robert Cook Jr. and Jesse Cook; and two sisters, Ruth Barlow and Melba Reynolds.
