Robert F. Scannell, 83, a resident of Davenport, died Sunday, January 5, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport. Private graveside services will take place at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal with military honors. Memorials may be made to the family.

Robert Florence Scannell was born on July 5, 1930 in Davenport, a son of Florence "Bud" and Genevieve (Randolph) Scannell. He proudly served our country in the Navy and Army. His service to our country spanned 25 years. Bob was awarded many medals over his career including the Bronze Star.
After his discharge, Bob worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 10 years.

Bob was devoted to the love of his life, Shirley, for over 35 years. He was very kind hearted and generous person, worrying about everyone but himself. He enjoyed being around his family, especially during the holidays. Bob also enjoyed coin collecting, and trips to the casinos.

Bob is survived by his life partner and companion, Shirley McIntyre; children: Randy (Charlene) McIntyre, Sandy McIntyre, Rickey (Janet) McIntyre, Rory (Rose) McIntyre, Donnie (Sharon) McIntyre and Marty McIntyre, all of the Iowa Quad Cities; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, William Scannell, Reynoldsburg, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joanie.
