Mrs. Sarah Butterfield, aged 74 years, died at the home of her son, Elijah Butterfield, near Grand Tower Saturday night, without medical attention.
Coroner Travelstead was called and an inquest was held Monday. Witnesses testified that two physicians were called but neither would go to see the woman. It was also brought out at the inquest that Mrs. Butterfield had a stroke of paralysis three years ago which left her in such condition that she could hardly get around and could not talk. In getting about the house, she had to drag one foot on the floor. The foot was bruised, the skin broken, and infection had set in. The jury returned a verdict that death was due to heart trouble following a stroke of paralysis, high blood pressure and infection of the foot. The deceased leaves the son with whom she made her home and a daughter who lives at Wolf Lake. The funeral and burial was held in Grand Tower Tuesday.
