Laura Lita Fairman-Powers recently lost her battle with cancer and passed away on Saturday January 4, 2014 at 4:59am, at her residence in Hallandale Beach.

Laura was born at the Brunswick Georgia Hospital on December 20th, 1951. Her parents were Ralph Marvin Fairman (deceased) and Eulita Jane Hinson (deceased). She is survived by her husband David James Powers of Hallandale Beach, Florida, her son William Branden Blackstone of Brunswick, Georgia, her daughter Katherine Jane Blackstone of Charleston, South Carolina, her two brothers Michael Fredrick Fairman of Brunswick, Georgia and Mark Monroe Fairman of Atlanta, Georgia and her granddaughter Hazel Rose Blackstone of Atlanta, Georgia. She was preceded by her brother Ralph Marvin Fairman Jr., who passed away on July 22, 2009.

Laura was a graduate of the Glynn Academy class of 1969. She went on to receive her associate's degree from Brunswick Junior College. She then attended the University of Georgia before transferring to the University of Rhode Island where she obtained her undergraduate as well as her Master's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences.

Laura spent several years working for the State of Georgia. First working as a teacher and then later as an Inclusion Coordinator with the Child Care Resource and Referral program out of Savannah Tech College. Laura retired from the State in 2011.
Laura and her husband David were married on May 21, 2005 at the Lovely Lane Chapel at Epworth by the Sea, on St. Simons Island, Georgia. They lived in Brunswick for most of their marriage before moving to Hallandale Beach, Florida where her husband now works for the Housing Authority of the City of Miami Beach.

Laura began writing with her first book entitled "SILK" having it published in 2009. She continued her writing publishing several other books including 2 that were a representation of her life and her religious pursuits.

There will be a visitation period at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, located on HWY 17, from 6-8pm on Wednesday January 8, 2014. Services will be held at the Christian Renewal Church on HWY 341 on January 9, 2014 at 10am. Funeral services will be held at Palmetto Cemetery on 341 following the service.

The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers that donation be made in the name of Laura Fairman-Powers to the Cancer Research Institute. This can be done by going to http://donations-cancerresearch.aiprx.com/giving-to-cri/honor-memorial-giving and clicking on the "Make a Memorial Gift Today".
