Elias was the son of Jacob and Catherine (Newman) Boyer, was born in Union Co., Penn. on Sept. 19, 1819. On October 12, 1843 he married Mary Wittenmyer (1826-1901). Elias enlisted October 22, 1862 in Co. C., 172nd Regiment, Penn. Infantry as a private. He served in the fortification at Yorktown, VA and the Gettysburg Campaign. He came to Lucas Co. in 1865.
