Thomas came to America from Scotland as a young child with his brother, Father (William) and Step-Mother (Jane Bailey Bryden). His Mother, Margaret Douglas Bryden, was born and died in Scotland. They lived briefly in Pennsylvania and then emigrated to northern Missouri / southern Iowa. Thomas married Susan (Aitken) Bryden in Unionville, Missouri. They had ten children. About 1918 Thomas and Susan moved to the Hillsboro, Illinois area with seven of their children. Tena, their oldest daughter, was now married to Ray Bozwell and they stayed in the Cincinnati, Iowa area. Thomas and Susan were described by their Grandchildren as very kind and hard working and spoke with a Scottish brogue.
