News Article/Obituary in The Fentress County Leader-Times 22 Mar 1973 pages 1 & 11 -- Willie Dayton Boles of here was charged with hit and run death of Mrs. Lola Hurst last Sunday night at 6:40 pm. The accident occurred near her home on US 127.N just passed the Candelight Club. Mrs. Hurst had just got off the church bus when the accident occurred. Ronald Hurst, a grandson of Mrs. Hurst, and a companion heard the thud when Mrs. Hurst was struck. Ronald went to his grandmother and the companion hopped in a pickup truck and managed to get the license of the car. Sheriff Stockton said that on checking the registration number it was found to be registered to Willie Dayton Boles. Stockton said that Boles was found at his Home and said he didn't know he hit anyone. Boles car was found to have a dent in the right front grill, the hood had mashed in spot and had blood on it. The right ear piece of Mrs. Hurst glasses was found lodge on the antenna of the car. Boles said he didn't know he hit anyone as he was meeting traffic on the road. He said he had gone Stright home. Boles was released on a $500 appearance bond, a preliminary hearing of April 10 was set. Mrs. Hurst 86 was a life long resident of Fentress County and a member of the Pine Haven Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons; Elmer Ernest and Elmo Hooper Hurst, both of Jamestown; one daughter Mae Stockton of Alaxander,KY; one sister Mrs. Travis Reagan of Jamestown; 20 grandchildren, 40 g-grandchildren, 9 g-g-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday March 21 at 10 am at the Pine Heaven Baptist Church with burial in the Hurst Cemetery. Rev. Charles Langford officiated with Mundy Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
