Opal Marguerite Allen was born May 22, 1901 in Omaha, Douglas county, Nebraska. Her father was a US postal worker who had lost a leg after an injury did not heal due to juvenile diabetes. He was very capable and walked around with one crutch and never let his disability be an obstacle in his life. The family moved to Wyoming where her parents owned the Allen Store in Rawlins, Carbon county, Wyoming. She graduated from Rawlins High School and married William Benton West, a World War I veteran, at the age of 21 on July 2, 1922 in Dixon, Carbon county, Wyoming. They had three daughters. Cervical cancer cut her life short and she died at the age of 49 on June 6, 1950 in the St. Luke's Hospital in Denver, Colorado and was buried August 9, 1950 in Rawlins, Carbon county, Wyoming.
