She was born the ninth of ten children, six boys and four girls. She graduated from Augusta High School in 1926 and earned a bachelor of science and master of science from Iowa State University. In 1950, she received an M.S.S.W. degree from Simmons College in Boston, MA.
She traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, and China. She maintained homes in Imperial, MO and Kissimmee, FL.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Marie Dellenbaugh and her second husband, Larry Wilk.
