Dorothy Ann Briggs, 81, of Midland, died Wedneday evening, Nov. 13, 2002, at the Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma.

Dorothy Ann was born on Jan. 15, 1921, in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of the late Hugh E. and Mary Jane (Clare) Campbell. On Sept. 28, 1940, she married Henry 'Hank' A. Briggs in Mount Pleasant, he preceded her in death on July 24, 1988. Dorothy had been a member of St. Brigids Church, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and bowled over 15 years at the Circle Lanes city bowling league. She enjoyed time spent with her family and had been an avid fisherman, taking time to cook at the Midland Hospital Center and the Midland Country Club.

Dorothy is survived by sons, Patrick (Dawn) Briggs of Merrill and Henry (Sandra) Briggs of Vermontville, Maple Valley; three grandchildren, Patrick II (Kimberli) Briggs of Cadillac, Brian (Carmen) Briggs of Traverse City and Amanda Briggs of Lansing; five great grandchildren, Taylor Patrick III, Morgan, Preston and Carson; brothers Myles Campbell of Mount Pleasant and Hugh (Bonnie) Campbell Jr. of Midland; sister, Maxine (Robert) Shepard of Mount Pleasant, and many close nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Donald, Clare, Lyle and Robert Campbell, and a sister Kathleen Diehl-Houghton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at 2 p.m. from the St. Brigid Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. Richard Filary will officiate, with interment to follow in Midland Cemetery.

Dorothy's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St., today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Christian Vigil service at 7:30 p.m., and at the church on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of Mass.
