Edward Patrick Holland, former supervisor from the City of Mechanicville and state district officer of the Knights of Columbus, died Friday, November 18th, 1955, at St. Anne's Hospital, Chicago, Illinois, after a long illness.

Mr. Holland had been residing in Chicago since 1948. Before that, he had been active in church, fraternal and political activities of the community here.

Born in Mechanicville, NY, March 25, 1899 (DOB confirmed from NY State Birth Certificate), he was the oldest child of the late Patrick Joseph and Anna Marie Hammond Holland. He attended Mechanicville public schools and at 18 years of age joined the Boston and Maine Railroad at its local freight offices. Later on, he joined the weight and inspection bureau of the Eastern Association of Railroads at Albany, NY, and in 1948 he was transferred to Chicago as general inspector.

At Chicago, he was a communicant of Our Lady Help of Christians Church. At Mechanicville, he was a communicant of Saint Paul the Apostle's Church and a member of its Holy Name Society and Ushers Association. He was also active in Boy Scout work here.
Mr. Holland served as Supervisor from the City of Mechanicville in 1941.

He was a member of the Mechanicville Council, Knights of Columbus and also a past Grand Knight. He was also a member of the 4th Degree Assembly.

Mr. Holland served as district deputy of the 40-41st district and past chairman of the state insurance committee of the K of C. and also former member of its state audit committee.

He was a member of the local court of the Foresters of America and the Mechanicville Lodge of Elks, 1403.

Surviviors include his wife, the former Monica Casey; three daughters, Mrs. Eugene Donahue (Virginia), Mechanicville; Mrs. Anthony Bivona (Dorine), Springdale, Conn.; and Mrs. Louis Fiorelli (Patricia), Albany, NY; two sons, Edward and John Holland of Chicago; three sisters, Mrs. Walter Hayner (Eileen Mary), Mrs. Anna Hebert, and Mrs. Ludwig Amann (Teresa Elizabeth), all of Mechanicville; four brothers, Patrick Joseph and John Francis Holland of Mechanicville; Gordon Augustine Holland of Chicago, and Thomas William Holland of Tulsa Oklahoma.

The funeral wiill be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. from the T.L. Cassidy Funeral Home, 126 North 2nd Avenue, and at 9:30 a.m. from Saint Paul the Apostle's Church where a Requiem Mass will be offered. Interrment will be in Saint Paul's Cemetery.

Edward's grandparents were the late Patrick Joseph and Ellen (Shaughnessy) Holland and Edward and Mary (Blackwell) Hammond all of the Ballysteen and Askeaton areas of Limerick Co., Ireland.

Edward P. Holland Dead; Active in Civic Projects While Mechanicville Resident.

Mechanicville - Edward P. Holland, 5244 West Race Ave., Chicago, Ill., died yesterday at St. Ann's Hospital Chicago, after a long illness. He was born in Mechanicville, March 25, 1899, a son of he late Patrick Holland and Anna Hammond and attended the Mechanicville schools. At. 18, he entered the employ of the Boston and Maine Railroad in the local freight office and in 1922 went to Albany to accept a position in the weighing and inspection bureau of the Eastern Association of Railroads, being transfered to Chicago in 1948 as general inspector.

While residing here he was a communicant of St. Paul's Church and a member of the Holy Name Society and Ushers Association of the church and had been active in Boy Scout Troop 39. Mr. Holland was supervisor from Mechanicville in 1941.

Mr. Holland was a member of the local Knights of Columbus and Fourth Degree Assembly, formerly district deputy of districts 40 and 41, also a past chairman of the State Insurance Committee and former member of the State Audit Committee. He held memberships in Foresters of America and the Elks.

Mr. Holland supervised the USO activities of the city in World War 2. At the time he was a member of the Board of Supervisors he was annoyed by what he termed unequal representation. He told the Rotary Club the he and the member from Saratoga Springs represented 22,000 out of 66,000 residents of the county, yet each had only as much voting power as one who represented a town of 400. He told the Rotarians on that occasion that he knew of some places where voting power was in proportion to population represented, and said he and the Saratoga man were seeking to effect that system in the county.

He survived by his wife, the former Monica Casey; three daughters, Mrs. Eugene Donahue, Mechanicville; Mrs. Anthony Bivona, Springdale Conn.; Mrs. Louis Fiorelli, Albany; two sons Edward and John Holland, Chicago; three sisters, Mrs. Walter Hayner, Mrs. Anna Hebert, Mrs. Ludwig Amann, Mechanicville; four brothers, Patrick and John of Mechanicville, Gordon of Chicago and Thomas of Tulsa, Okla.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Cassidy Funeral Home, 126 N. Sec., and at 9:30 at St. Paul's Church. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.

The funeral home will be open Sunday evening and Monday afternoon and evening.
