She was born December 8, 1919 in Moffett, Oklahoma to Rev. James Henry and Rachel Copeland Goodman.
She retired from the Fort Smith Public Schools where she was the Cafeteria Manager at Barling Elementary School. She attended First Southern Baptist Church in Central where she was a member of the Senior Ladies Sunday School class affectionately known as "The last class before Heaven".
She was preceded in death by her husband James Carruth, two infant children, James Robert and Jane Carruth, three brothers Henry and wife Ada Goodman, John and wife Tressie Goodman, Clifford and wife Mary Goodman, two sisters Esta Lee and husband Layman Taylor, Leona Goodman, and a son-in-law Charles Callison.
She is survived by two daughters Rachel Callison of Seymour, TX, and Joyce and husband Kenneth Smithson of Lavaca; seven grandchildren Kenny, Scotty, Darren, and Dusty Smithson of Lavaca, AR, April Seymour of Graham, TX, Craig Callison of Albuquerque, NM, and Tandy Anderson of Vernon, TX; 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 at Smith Mortuary in Charleston, AR. Services will be Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 3:00 pm at the funeral home. The services will be officiated by her nephew Jack Taylor and her pastor Russ Tyler. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lavaca Senior Center and her Sunday School Class.
