Vernon J. Robbins, age 64, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 12:50 pm Thursday, August 15, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Born on November 10, 1948 in Leatherwood, KY, he was the son of James W. Robbins and Dovie E. (Baker) Robbins.

He graduated from Leatherwood High School with the Class of 1966. On March 28, 1970, he married Shirley J. Cozad. He served in the US Army in Vietnam. He had worked for Super Value and in 1985; he started The Lube Center in Columbia City. He loved spending time with his family, playing with his grandchildren and taking care of others. He had coached his children's softball and baseball teams. He enjoyed watching sports and was a big IU and Colts fan.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Shirley; children, Tricia (Nick) Elliott of Churubusco, Kimberly (Brent) Lickey, Ryan Robbins and Jessica (Jay) Johnson, all of Columbia City; sisters, Freida Weber of Sheboygan, WI and Kay Jones of Fort Wayne; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dewey and Kenneth Robbins.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorial honors can be made in Mr. Robbins's memory to his grandchildren's school fund, I.C.O. Shirley Robbins.
