Juanita " Nina" Smith Phillips, 83, of Briceville, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014, with her family by her side.

She was born to the late Charles C. Smith, Sr. and Louella "Ma Smith" Burgess Smith, April 5, 1930, in Ravencroft, Tennessee. She was married to Ervin Phillips, for 68 years and they made their home in Briceville, Tennessee.

Juanita was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother who treasured spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed ceramics, camping and fishing with her family, found pleasure working in her garden and being outdoors, and was a member of the Eastern Star Coal Creek Lodge 226 and CB Club.

Juanita is survived by three children: Brenda Phillips Braden, of Briceville; Michael Phillips and wife Kathy of Manchester; Debra Jane Phillips Martin and husband Joe of Manchester; and a dear sister, Doris "Dot" Richards of Knoxville. She is also survived by her grandchildren: A special granddaughter, Tesha Jarnigan and husband Chris; Chris Braden and his late wife April; Wayne Braden and wife Tammy; Melody McCormick; Mikey Phillips; Misty Weaver and husband Jeff; Mickey Phillips and wife Rebecca; Charlie Phillips and wife Amanda; Jonathan Martin and wife Tiffany; Katrina Fulks and husband Floyd; Dustin Phillips; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren due in the spring and 1 great-great grandchild. She also cherished her beloved dogs: Little Bit and Sasha

She was preceded in death by brothers: Charles Smith, Larry Smith, Harold Smith; sisters Tootie Richards, Ruth Carter and husband Gib; great-great grandchild, Miah Elam.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 from 5-7 PM at Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM with the Rev. Jim Ault officiating. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 12:15 PM and go in funeral procession to the Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton for a 1:00 PM interment. www.holleygamblefh.com

There was a mistake in her obituary. She and Uncle Ervin were married 66 years not 68. Their wedding date was April 12, 1947. Aunt Nina gave me that date earlier last year.
