Early in the evening of January 2, 2014, Clinton E. Wolf departed from his ailing body to be at home with the Lord. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joann (Penney) Wolf, and their four children, Laura L. Nichols (Bob), Sharon M. Lafayette (Carey), Julia A. Ortiz (Juan), and Gene Wolf (Sherri), 13 grandchildren, 16 great grand children, and two sisters, Mary Ellen Boughner and Ann Eaton and nieces Susan Foster and Cindy VanPelt. Clinton was born to Herschel and Grace Wolf on September 18, 1927, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He moved to El Paso in 1938. After graduating from Ysleta High School in 1945, Clinton joined the Navy to serve his country, eventually retiring from the Navy Reserves as a Captain. Following a year of active duty and the conclusion of World War II, Clinton returned to Texas to attend college at Hardin Simmons University(HSU) in Abilene, where he graduated in 1950. Shortly following graduation, Clinton married the love of his life and college sweetheart, Joann. Clinton and Joann settled in El Paso. Clinton took a job at Standard Oil Company where he worked for three years. He then began a successful 60 year career in the building and real estate development business, completing his final construction project in 2013.Clinton serves as a modern day example of a man after God's own heart. Throughout his life he was an active member and leader at First Baptist Church and in the Christian community. Clinton's faith was demonstrated through his service at church and through his donation of time, treasures and talents, most evident in the building and remodeling of innumerable Baptist churches, schools and projects in the El Paso/Juarez area and across the Southwest United States. Clinton was a leader in his community, having served as Chairman of the El Paso Public Service Board, Commander of the U.S. Navy Reserve Center in El Paso, President of the Texas Apartment Association, Director of Sierra Medical Center, Director of State National Bank - Franklin Branch, Director of City Pension Board, Director of El Paso Housing Authority, Director of Board of Equalization, Director of Region XIX Education Service Center Board, El Paso City Councilman, and President and member of the Northeast Civitan Club, a volunteer service club. Clinton was a leader at his university, having served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of HSU. In addition, Clinton was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humanities by HSU in 1999, and Clinton and Joann both were awarded the John J. Keeter, Jr. Alumni Service Award by HSU in 2006, the highest alumni honor HSU can bestow. Clinton was a doting husband, loving father and grandfather, and avid hunter. Clinton will be missed deeply- his quick wit and charm, the twinkle in his blue eyes, his strength, his wise counsel, his generosity, his integrity, his approval and encouragement, and his love. Clinton fought the good fight. He finished the race. He kept the faith. The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, 805 Montana Ave., El Paso, Texas, at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 7, 2014.Interment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of El Paso Foundation,805 Montana Ave., El Paso, Texas 79902.Services under the direction of Harding Orr & McDaniel Funeral Home.
