He grew up and attended school in Omaha, graduating in 1940. Following high school, he briefly attended East Texas Teachers College. He then began his career at Cotton Belt. In 1950 he met and married Dorothy Edna Gieger. They moved to Tyler in 1958. Sonny retired from Cotton Belt in 1984. He enjoyed gardening. He was a member of Lifegate Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy E. Henderson, of Tyler; son, Louis Henderson, of Tyler; sister-in-law, Peggy Prickett, of Marietta, Ga.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home, 12053 State Highway 64 West, Tyler. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Tyler Memorial Cemetery.
