He was born in Gipsy, Pa., on March 1, 1926, to the late Rev. Oran Reed Bennett. His stepmother was Laura Bennett. He was from a family of seven brothers and six sisters; four brothers and two sisters now survive him.
The Rev. Bennett was a Wesleyan Methodist minister and a World War II Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Springhill Wesleyan Church in Hamlet.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Irene Dees Bennett and daughter, Carolyn Morgan.
Survivors include his daughter, Sharon Oxendine of Rockingham; son, Billy Bennett (Brenda) of Rockingham; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Spring Hill Wesleyan Church with a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Irwin Luther officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
