LORAIN - Herbert "Jack" Hall, 81 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014, at his home following a sudden illness.

He was born November 4, 1932 in Palestine, West Virginia. Jack was raised in West Virginia, graduating from East Bank High School in the class of 1950. He had made his home in Lorain for the last fifty-six years.

Jack proudly served in the United States Army. He was employed in the maintenance department and instrument repair at BF Goodrich for thirty-eight years before retiring in 1992. Jack was a man of strong faith and lived his life with Christian values. His hobbies included bird watching, tending to his yard and woodworking. Jack loved traveling with his wife Lois. They were snow birds, wintering in Davenport, Florida. He enjoyed staying in touch with his "Retiree friends". His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years Lois Hall (nee: Basham); his sons and their wives Jackie and Tammie Hall of Houston, Texas, David and Diane Hall of Lorain; his daughter and her husband Barbara and Michael Balog of Lorain; grandchildren Kristina (Scott) Foss, Joshua (Kellie) Hall, Tina (Jon) Shelton, Kari (Kenneth) Coniglio, William (Jennifer) Hall all of Ohio, Emily Hall, Gibson Hall of Texas; seven great grandchildren with one on the way; his brothers and their wives Harold and Leola Hall of Winter Haven, Florida, Henry and Doris Hall of South Amherst, Richard "Buster" Hall of Roanoke, Virgina, James and Lura Hall of Vermilion; and his sister Helen Padgett of Roanoke, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his brother Herman Paul Hall; sister Hazel Hawk; and his parents Eura and Mattie Hall (Baker).

Friends may call Sunday, January 5, 2014, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Monday, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Matt Williams, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Wounded Warrior Project; 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
