BRISTOL — Mr. Nathaniel William Collins Jr., 67, entered into peaceful rest Dec. 28, 2013, at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in West Haven, after a long illness.

Mr. Collins was born March 17, 1946, in Notasulga, Ala., son of Nathaniel Collins Sr. of Waterbury and the late Martha Mae (Ware) Collins. Mr. Collins was educated in the Waterbury school system. He retired from Northeast Utilities/CL&P as a cable slicer after 35 years of service.

Mr. Collins served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a longtime member of the American Legion William Wilson Post No. 135 and the Social Club on Violet Street in Waterbury.

He is survived by his only son, Michael (Tammy) Pearson, and a grandson, Nicholas Pearson, all of Butler, Pa.; four sisters, Mary H. (Jasper Jr.) Norflet, Teena Collins Zimmerman, Elizabeth Collins Olivo and Martha Collins, all of Waterbury; a brother, Edward (Saundra) Collins of Waterbury; his longtime companion, Lula Hoffler of Waterbury; and his favorite cousin, Callie Mae Levette of Notasulga, Ala.; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charlie Collins and Michael Anthony Collins.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. today, Jan. 4, 2014, at Refuge Church of Christ, 13-15 Hawkins St., Waterbury. Military burial will be held in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hour will be held 9 a.m. today, Jan. 4, at the church. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services and all other times at 660 Bucks Hill Road, Waterbury.
