Donald Ray Hammonds, 80, of Cowan, husband of the late Anna Mary Clinkenbeard Hammonds, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the Care Center at Kenton Pointe in Maysville.

Born July 12, 1933 in Fleming County to the late Charles Tilton and Gertrude McIntyre Hammonds. Donnie was a U.S. Army Veteran, a life-long farmer who retired after many years of working for Windstone Farms and was also a former employee of Jockey International & Kentucky Textiles.

Survivors include his two daughters, Donna (Ty) Proffitt, of Carlisle, and Beth Linville, of Georgetown; a sister, Deloris Zitt, of Elsmere; three grandchildren, Jason Jessee, Danyelle Linville and Hunter Linville; and two great-grandchildren, Riley and Kendall Jesse; as well as two "adopted sons" Scotty McCord and Danny McIntyre.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert and John Bill Hammonds; two sisters, Lilly Posey and Dorothy Watson, and a grandson, William Robert "W.R" Hughes.

Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home. Brother Dean Brewer and Brother Tommy Fern officiated and interment was in the Carlisle Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Allen Ray Argo, Keith Lamb, Scotty McCord, Danny McIntyre, Dan Short, and Cliff Shumate.

Honorary bearers were Buster Bailey, Phil Ecton, J.T. Hammonds, Diane McIntyre, Vickie & Freddy Rose and his many friends at the Cowan Store.
